TEMPLAR SWORD

The Knights Templar were a powerful crusading order of knights founded in the 11th Century with many of their number recruited from England and France. There are many Templar castles and churches throughout England including the Temple Church in London, made famous in The Da Vinci Code.

Our Templar Sword is a product of the world famous Art Gladius factory in the historic sword manufacturing city of Toledo, Spain. It features the words SIGILLUM MILITUM TEMPLI XPISTI (Seal of the Knights of Christ) emblazoned around the pommel encircling a Templar Cross with knotwork decoration. The guard also features the Cross Pattée and heraldic imagery on the quillons, and the “Two Knights on One Horse” (said to symbolise the poverty of the order) symbol at the centre of the guard. The handle also features Christian symbology and a black textured grip. The stainless steel blade features etched heraldic designs. This item has a blunt blade and is manufactured for display only.

The Grand Masters of the Knights Templar during the later 12th and the 13th century used a double-sided seal which showed a representation of The Dome of the Rock (or a circular dome of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre) on one side, and the Order's symbol of two knights on one horse on the other side. This design is first attested as in use by Bertrand de Blanquefort, the order's sixth Grand Master, in 1158, forty years after its foundation, and it remained in use until the dissolution of the order in 1312.
