ODIN SWORD

Odin is the holiest of Norse gods, and sits on the throne of Asgard called Hlidskialf. All other gods are descended from him, thus he is surnamed Allfather. Odin is always represented with one eye hidden, as he sacrificed an eye to gain wisdom at Mimir's Well. The God of war, learning, and poetry; Odin was believed to have fashioned the universe, created man and established the laws that controlled the destiny of the world. He was the father of Thor and the inspiration to the creation of the Roman god, Mercury.

On the 8th June 793 the first Viking attack is recorded in England. The abbey of Lindisfarne in Northumbria, a centre of learning that was famous across Europe was destroyed in a Viking raid. Monks were killed or taken away as slaves and the church treasures were taken away. From this moment onwards, Viking raids on England became more frequent until they were eventually defeated in a series of battles by King Alfred the Great. The last Viking raid on England was defeated by King Harold II in 1066. The Vikings were ferocious warriors and saw death in battle as means to entering the Halls of Valhalla – where they could fight all day and feast all night.

The sword of Odin was created to represent the might of his legend. The handle design is of Norse and Viking influence, this is a beautifully crafted replica made from the finest Spanish Toledan steel.

This Odin Viking Sword is based on an excavated find from Dyback in Sweden and now on display in the Historiska Museum, Stockholm. It is one of the finest Viking-era swords ever found in Scandinavia. It was probably made in England and if not, it was certainly influenced by English styles. It is an exceptional example of the Winchester style of metalwork from the 8th-11th century. This stunning replica features a leather-bound grip (the original sword had silver wire) and a decorated stainless steel blade. This fantastic replica is produced in the world famous Art Gladius factory in Toledo, Spain.
